Are Water Slide Rentals Insured? What to Ask Before You Book
Reputable water slide rental companies carry liability insurance — and every Big Wave Slides rental is fully insured, with a certificate of insurance (COI) available on request. If a company can't show proof of insurance, don't rent from them: you could be left holding the liability at your own party. Here's what insured really means and what to ask.
What does "fully insured" actually cover?
A rental company's liability insurance protects against claims arising from the equipment and its installation — the things under the company's control. That's why professional setup matters as much as the paperwork: an insured company anchors the slide properly (stakes on grass, sandbags on hard surfaces) and safety-checks it before anyone rides, whether it's a compact Whale Splash 16 or a two-story Cosmic Rocket 18.
What is a COI — and who needs one?
A certificate of insurance is the one-page proof of the company's coverage. Schools, churches, HOAs, parks, and municipalities usually require one before an inflatable touches their property — often naming the venue as additional insured. If you're planning a church event or school fair with something like the Superhero City Combo, request the COI when you book; we provide it as standard.
Why uninsured rentals are a real risk
Craigslist-special rentals with no insurance put everything on you. If a guest is hurt on an uninsured, badly anchored slide in your yard, the claim can land on your homeowner's policy — or on you personally. The $50 you saved is not worth it. This is question #2 in our 10 questions to ask before renting for a reason.
Insurance is one layer — here's the rest
Coverage matters most when it never gets used. The full safety stack on every Big Wave Slides rental:
- Commercial-grade units built for public use — from the Unicorn Dreamland Bouncer to the Rodeo Bull Rider.
- Professional anchoring and a safety check at setup, every time.
- Sanitizing before every delivery, not "regularly."
- Weather rules — inflatables shut down in sustained high winds or storms; see how windy is too windy.
- Clear rider rules — capacity, height, and age guidance per unit, plus adult supervision.
Does my own event need extra insurance?
Usually not for a backyard party — the company's coverage plus adult supervision is the standard setup. Larger public events sometimes buy separate special-event insurance; if your venue asks for it, we're happy to coordinate paperwork alongside our COI. Corporate planners booking an Emerald Palm 18 or Tropical Paradise 18 for a company day: send us the venue's requirements and we'll sort it.
FAQ
Can I see proof of insurance before booking? Yes — ask and we'll provide the certificate. Any company that stalls on this question is telling you everything you need to know.
Does insurance cover misuse of the slide? No policy covers reckless misuse — that's why rider rules and adult supervision are part of every rental, and why the crew reviews them at setup.
My venue wants to be named as additional insured. Possible? That's a routine request for schools, parks, and municipalities — mention it in your quote request and we'll handle it.
Are cheap uninsured rentals ever okay? For your own party, with your own guests, on your own property? No. The downside is unbounded; the saving is pocket change.
